Cellulitis in people living with lymphoedema is approximately 40 times more likely than in the average population. Cellulitis (and erysipelas) exacerbate lymphoedema by damaging the lymphatic system. An episode of cellulitis increases the future risk of recurrence setting up a vicious cycle.

Lymphoedema can also lead to chronic skin infections such as tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) infected nails, ulcers, lymphorrhoea (the leaking of lymph) and the reduction in range of movement and mobility from grossly swollen limb/s.
